WITHER TRACE
What you'll need:
-
60cm flexible curve
-
A4 paper
-
Marker pen
-
Chalk or tape
Purchase a flexi curve:
There are several purchase options on Amazon if this one is sold out.

1. Find the back of the scapula on each side and mark it with the chalk or tape.

2. Lay down 3 fingers back from the scapula and mark again. Do this on both sides.

3. Put the flexi curve at that second mark on each side and mould to the horse’s withers. Keep the flexi curve vertical.

4. Carefully transfer that shaped curve to A4 paper and trace the underside. Mark a 3” cross on the paper under the curve, so that when printed, I can be certain the print is to scale. Add yours and your horse’s name to the trace.
Email or post the A4 paper wither trace to us.

Do you have a weight limit you can lift?
Western saddles are heavy: on average 28-34lbs and 27-28” long, but slightly lighter and smaller options are available.
RIDING GOALS
Do you want to rein, show, hack, games or other? This is very important because just like English saddles, Western saddles are designed for specific riding requirements.
You can read about the different types of Western saddles here: https://shorturl.at/VZvb6
REALISTIC BUDGET
Most of my saddles range from £1295-£4000, although the average price is £1695.
Good quality Western saddles are expensive because they are only made in the USA and have to be imported.
There are no western saddles currently produced in the UK.
MILEAGE AND FIT FEES
I charge £1.50 mile one-way with a minimum of £35 within a 35 mile radius to come fit. Mileage can be shared if there is more than one booking at the same area or location.
I only book appointments once I have your photos and trace so I know which saddles are the best to bring based on your horse.
There is an additional fit charge of £50 per horse (£75 if travelling over 100 miles) if there is a suitable saddle but no purchase is made. This is credited should you make a saddle purchase within 6 months. If I do not have a suitable saddle, then there is no additional £50/£75 fit charge.
